Look beyond carat weight
Carat is a measure of weight, not a complete description of visual size. Cut, dimensions, setting height, and the amount of visible metal all influence how a gemstone presents in the finished piece.
Notice the negative space
Space around a stone can make a design feel lighter and more contemporary. A closely set composition can feel richer and more continuous. Neither is inherently better; the choice is about the presence you prefer.
Compare on the body
Photographs and listed dimensions help narrow a selection. For a final decision, compare pieces against the hand, ear, neckline, or wrist so scale can be understood in context.
